How Low Can You Go?
I just caught a pretty amusing story on CNN. Apparently in Ohio a man robbed a bank of about $80, handed the money to a security guard and waited for the police to come an arrest him. Apparently the man was trying to be imprisoned because he was having trouble holding a steady job, and was looking for a way to avoid paying social security for a few years. At first, the jury was skeptical to put him in prison because he would be essentially mooching off of the tax payers dollars, but since they feared he would go out and do something even worse to get himself into prison they ultimately had him locked away.
That's reaching a little low in scraping the social barrel here. The man was also reported to be a completly charming person with no psychological problems. It makes me worry what else people will try to pull to avoid paying their dues for a few years. Also, would it really be worth giving up your freedom for? I guess that's something we can debate for a little while.
