The Illusionist
I got to see "The Illusionist" the other night, making it officially the second magician movie I have seen in the past week. While I had some troubles with "The Prestige," "The Illusionist" was much lass impressive. One of the cool things about "The Prestige" was that there was an answer for everything, all the magic was laid out for you and you knew just as much as everyone else on the screen. With "The Illusionist" it was more like a love story or a political overthrow that happened to have a magician in it, so you never really got a straight answer as to how the title character got his power or how he does his tricks. The movie kept itself feeling a bit more clever than it's audience, and that can be a bit annoying.
And I wasn't too impressed with actors that I usually love to watch. Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti always deliver great performances, but I feel this script kind of hindered them from being less-than impressive. Oh well, I guess not every movie can be a winner.
