Merry Christmas?
My friend Paul and I walked into Walmart the other day, and we were warmly greeted by the employee at the door with "Merry Christmas! How are you?" We both responded politely and thought nothing of it for a second until I realized that this lady had been saying "Merry Christmas" to everyone that was walking into the door, regardless of what religion they might practice or which holiday they might be celebrating. This came as a shock to me, growing up in a society where we are supposed to be saying "Happy Holidays" to stay politically correct. But then Paul told me that apparently it was declared "okay" to say "Merry Christmas" in public this year.
Who determines that? Is theres some magical diety that lives in the United Nations that comes out once a year and bestows upon the world what he or she feels is politically correct to be saying? I'm not really bothered by this change, so much as I am just a bit confused and curious as to what might have made this come about.
So until then....MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!!!
